Quote: "Probably the one thing I'm most proud of in my life is how hard I've worked at keeping everybody around. It can get tricky. Because when you start to get famous, people start to surround you and tell you how great you are; you get this whole crew of friends you don't know, and they're suddenly your best friends. - GQ, October 1997

This baby-faced, bedroom-eyed actor had a decade-long career in series TV, generally in forgettable roles, which finally paid off with a regular starring role as a charming but troubled pediatrician on the NBC medical series ER. A scion of a show business family--his father Nick is a broadcast journalist and on-air host, his aunt is singer Rosemary Clooney and his cousin is actor Miguel Ferrer--Clooney grew up on the set of his father's shows, filling in both on- and back-stage.

Clooney's adult acting career began with a slew of pilots and small sitcom roles and included parts in the laughable horror features Return to Killer High (1986) and Return of the Killer Tomatoes (1988). Stardom didn't arrive until he was cast as Dr. Doug Ross on ER, a role that made him the man of the year in the media. While continuing with the TV show, Clooney began to make inroads in Hollywood, scoring as Quentin Tarantino's brother in Robert Rodriguez's vampire thriller From Dusk Till Dawn and displaying his boyish charms opposite Michelle Pfeiffer in the romantic comedy One Fine Day (both 1996). Although he proved adequate in the dual roles of Bruce Wayne and the Dark Knight in Batman & Robin (1997), Clooney was hampered by a muddled script and overwhelmed by the film's over-the-top production values.
